How would you study a Hull ID Amount?
The Hull Identification Quantity (HIN) is actually a twelve- or fourteen-character serial number that uniquely identifies a ship. The HIN is analogous to a VIN on a car.
The primary three digits will be the Company’s Identification Code (ex. Boat brand name which include Sea Ray, Meridian, and many others.). The 4 digits following that tend to be the company’s serial number for your boat. The third and 4th digits from the end are the day of manufacture. The letter to the day of your manufacture corresponds to your month with the yr, i.e. A = January, B = February, C = March and so on. The final two digits in the HIN amount depict the model year.
All boats manufactured or imported on or following November one, 1972, need to bear a HIN, and this HIN has to be identified for the duration of boat registration. Vessels made or imported ahead of 1972 are hull id number EXEMPT given that they typically do not have a HIN.
The HIN is uncovered over a metal or plastic plate, typically over the transom on the boat, generally on the right starboard (appropriate) facet in the transom within two inches of the highest of transom, gunwale, or hull/deck joint, whichever is lowest.
On vessels with out transoms, or impractical to work with transoms, the HIN will likely be affixed for the starboard (appropriate) outboard aspect of hull, aft, in one foot from the stern and inside two inches of the top from the hull side, gunwale or hull/deck joint, whichever is lowest.
